Whose Spirit Dances
Years run through
the hands of our lives
sweat and blood, the bag of waters and tears
We weather the storm and mark them off
in a one by one by one
As we grow older, we slow down
wonder at their significance
worry the wants and ask the whys
and where-fors of what we have done
Life appears different
a kaleidoscope of dream moments
Are they any less important
those lived from the surreal
The lines that divide diminish
as we accept our wants and needs
amidst the myriad hopes and wishes
decide for ourselves how we feel
Maturity is sobering, an experience
that tends to chill us out, slow us down
We become more careful, hopeful and aware
alert to the ring of second chances
Our quickened blood is tempered
It runs cold and hot in our veins
A true wonder and beauty is the spirit
whose heart and mind still dances
