Vacant Lots

The tall pecan trees circle
Where the houses once stood
Old gas pipes or water lines
Twisted and rusty 
Curl from the dirt.
A stone chimney or
Concrete stoop marks the spot.
The space above the ground must hold 
The eventful moments born:
Love, hate, happiness, grief
On each lot
Lives created and lost.
Birthday parties, holidays on the porch.
And the joys around how many Christmans trees. 
They all float there forever.
