Room With a View
(outside a veteran's hospital window)

Hawks,
disguised as doves,
roost
outside my window;
peaceful visitors
perched
on blossomed boughs.
Midnight's nurse
finds me curled
under bloodied sheets;
my back against the glass,
and a hundred red-stained beaks.
