You Say...

You say, “Please don't” while as you peep your eyes cry out “please do!”
A stunning mare of rare delight is not the half of you.
You’re so convinced we cannot, yet your heart belies your spin,
We simply cannot, cannot, cannot, …, so here we go again.

Cannot like we cannot spin the earth about the sun,
Cannot as we look ahead our lives are nearly done,
As summer turns the feathers cannot take the air and run,
And cannot find, below all else, expression of our love.

Cannot as we cannot feel the rolling of the hills,
Or smell the sweet lust dripping from our steamy window sills,
Amongst the willows droopy touch the streams we cannot taste,
The whole world simply cannot wait, for time we have to waste.

So cannot you and cannot I find someway to unlock it,
A treasure chest that cannot be where cannot’s can’t be jested.
For you I found, happenstance, a bank note in my pocket.
Along with such a cruel effect, I've found I cannot spend it.

So cannot, as a river cannot flow to fill the seas,
As oceans cannot rise to fill the heavens on a breeze,
Our hearts cannot be choked in something close and warm and real,
And rivers cannot drink the storm and wash away our dreams.
