Adagio
-- For Dominique and Anne
In the cold wash of this rainy day
It is difficult for him to live out purpose.
Her arms would lock and retain such a pulse,
But she’s lost in love.
His efforts are of mug to mouth
While the children dream the world
The world on their backs.
The leaves turn, unfold Summer
And already the shutter in his arms.
No sound of avenues to retain the void that comes
As silence and signals the return of a fallen Fall.
Mutters that muddle the blood
To anxiety over the end which awaits
The green tint of leaves a season in age.
But why die if only to begin again?
If only to return again to what state
Freezes wind to cloud.
Why live if only to push again
The bark’s cocoon and stand eye shut,
Frail in the first light?
Winter curves the surviving bodies
Of branches holding up the dream of oncoming sun.
Concentrate with me the answer,
For it appears that observation is key.
The earth bends into the crisis of anguish,
His love is lost
The heart cracks into a sigh of ache,
His lost is love.
