Once Upon a Summer's Day
Once upon a summer's day, I saw a green leaf fall;
It fell slowly down, as if to say, "It's not my turn at all."
Its friends above bowed their heads in sorrow to see such young life die,
But then they smiled and said, "On the morrow, we'll see him-by and by."
"Enjoy life!" a brown leaf cried!
"Enjoy it while you can!"
"For we are born, but soon we die,
Our life is but a span."
The leaves of brown lay on the ground,
Their time had come, long past;
And each new leaf of tarnished gown
Would soon its shadow cast.
But seeing that life on the ground
(Tarnished now, in earthen brown),
What once was green with life, was now Decayed.
I realized that just one breath
Of that great Wind that we call 'Death'
And even those of youth are blown away.
From this day on, I knew what I must do,
I must tell this tale to you;
For like the leaves which once were green
Our life goes by, (As does a Dream);
Once upon a winter's day, I heard a brown leaf fall,
It fell quickly down, as if to say, "It's my turn after all!"
The wind may do what the Wind may please,
May blow where it will blow;
The significance is to enjoy the breeze
And love life, as we grow!
