Love Story
You were there
All along.
I didn't know.
I stumbled against you.
You caught me.
You sleep soundly,
The sheets coiled around you.
I turn away
And think of these last months
When we circled each other
Like children, spoiling for a fight.
We pull apart like a stretched rubber band,
And wonder why it doesn't break
But bounces back.
We struggle to talk
And share our secrets.
We hold them safe
From the world outside.
Making our way together,
We trip and roll,
Intertwined like a child's braid.
Up a hill and down another.
I'm out of breath, you say.
Lean against me, I say.
