Lava Lava
(Lava lava is a traditional dress
of the Samoan People, very much a "Sarong")
Your shroud
enwraps my
waist
thigh
legs
Colours me
hibiscus pink
yellow red
gives me something
I believe in
That I am
Samoan enough
to wear your
Lava Lava
Dedicated to My Grandmother
Nonsina Ulberg.
Silence of days
Have not written
in the silences of days
for I was written
why not have been afraid
Was I speaking in tongues
Riddling, speaking in washes
Was I afraid of what
I had said
for her muse it did
beckon me
from within seamless tides
subdued me
And I listened
to poems new
of a fledgling voice
Courageous Heart
Kindred spirit
words verse aborn
Have not written in
days of silence
for I was waiting
Why not have been afraid
