Voice of Bartemaus

And I will say once again that darkness
Is persistent and gives way only
With great reluctance
In small spots as if to delay
And discourage

This I know for I have sojourned
Like Bartemanus a blind man
In plutonic gloom so dense
Light does not travel
Or penetrate its reaches

I have waited a lifetime
For one spark or shimmer
A lone glimmer a glint or gleam and
I will continue to call out
A voice from the darkness

Blushing Success
A Hollywood Park Poem

There was a time not long ago
When I would lean toward her
Bury my face in the sweet scent
Of hair that like a halo of the holy
Surrounds her head and forms
A nimbus near her body
That is her signature
To my senses.

My eyes closed I speak
Into the fragrance:
“Success is something that
Someone falls victim to”
And she replies with a question:
“Like falling in love?”
And goes on quite profoundly
To tell me saying in a whisper:
“Take no credit.
Take no blame.”

Light seen through
Thin leaves of a sycamore
Is a June morning
