Dead Time
my bus pulled in the late afternoon
tar mists/black fogs pursued its diesel fumes
After the satin millennia, Union Square up-chucks
pass-outs, anxiety-free days, recalcitrant lovers
to see my new-mouse dad is a bring down indeed
Love for him's a given
as is the old cold Sadness
built year after year in the morning arenas
the dusty books (late fees), public speaking
contests
After the 16th year I was all nerves
I had to cure me
slow loveless
one bright blue flame warming the forever winters
rebellion with the demon whores
night after night, dreaming of La Cinega mansions
Harleys and Zig-Zags
I left my soul in N.Y.
It's slowly churning amongst the confetti and flowers
it crumples as my niece gets hitched
set-up married
and I'm here
on my Queen-size bed
dreaming of a lonely triumph
of Manhattan
of m'lady Love
and wondering who to call first
