In Your Element

Calm me with waters
Spread your waters on my brow
I can ripple to kindness
I can dive into blue.

Then it burns madly
A fire run naked in the field
A blaze past your window at midnight
Take me down to ash.

I understand the soil
The hidden food for trees
The bread baking smell of loam
Seeps up at dawn to wake us.

Can you spin me up there
Through fine misty clouds
To dry blowing over tundra
I disappear in that breath.
