Turtle Legacy
In the rattling morning clatter of the tide
A million empty shells eclipse the shore
Where years ago, their eggs were borne.
February 22nd
These barely perceptible sugar-buds
Put the first new grace of spring
in my heart,
While outside, winter's beard embraces
trees and you and me.
In fog unfaltering,
I sweat in winter labor
And hope for spring lucidity
To waken and surrender me.
Unemployed
Alone with you on an Autumn afternoon --
Let the rain pour ceaselessly from the heavens
While we two are joined,
And watch our steamy breath
As the windows shroud over grey
And the daylight hours sigh silently.
In the twilight dusky haze,
While the Moon raises himself from his bed, on one arm,
Let no one disturb our ritual.
Let no one invade our little home.
Let night rise tall to find us unmoved
And morning creep over you in my arms.
