Black's Beach
Trying to look
anywhere
but at the ocean
the beach seems wide
for October
at the skyline,
tired wooden coaster sits
coiled in winter rest
child dances,
bonfire growing
at the base of cliff
a primal shadow
below the horizon
a pink sailboat moves
from blue to hazy red
approaching the inferno
of civilization
I relax:
my focus moves
from familiar landmark-
cypress bough,
mouth of bay
winding lighthouse road
engulfed by rhythmic
waves
I lean to ignore
the sound that never
sleeps
as infinite as avoidance
and togetherness
the ocean meets the shore.
It is a desire
I cannot casually observe.
