The Oceans and the Trees
The oceans and the trees
Of all my loves
The first two are these
On hot and humid days
To lie or sit and gaze
Into the lofty, leafy boughs
And thus repledge my vows
To see, to live, to draw
Harmonious to my faith
A faith of no synod
My own devised with awe
At arts of our common God
Changeless, changing, aquamarine
Waters ebb and flow
Turquoise, moonspun, wild and serene
Moon queen, umbilica unseen is
mother of seas
To king sky, high verdant boughs bow on every breeze
How fulfilling are the timeless oceans and the timeless trees.
I Awoke
I awoke to stillness
Soft and bright
For it had snowed throughout the night
Last eve, on returning home
I saw our city, a weary worn old wife
A looming gargoyle is dishwater light
This morn, time has reversed
herself
She's a radiant, expectant girl
Robed in luminous virginal white
Flurries of crystal blue frost
Ripple the translucent veil over glowing eyes
Of this dawn's miraculous sight
A moment suspended, when her
impatient groom
Pauses and imprints on memory, a balm
For the harsh days ahead, a rare insight
A glimpse, precious above worldly
glitter
Of mountains, his to climb, his the might
To behold life from eternal height.
The Autumn Leaves
The autumn leaves, they pleasure
me
And turn my thoughts to blowing free
How brazen bold, they dance and glide
A skip, hop, a giddy ride
To the frozen arch of white December
I hope that I shall dare
Waltz down Death's chill air
With the gay gallantry of a golden leaf
Who celebrates her last days so brief
Bequeathing flame defiance to remember
