USA The Carriageway
Today we take the carriageway--
A road thats worn and wide,
And guide our horses on their way
Across the great divide.
We lead the team which pulls the sleigh;
But whither would we ride
If only they could have a say
To follow their own stride?
Those burdens which our feet forego
Now rain upon the horse;
And though it pains us, can they know
How deep is our remorse?
Why do we have to beat them so
To keep them on their course,
For seeds of freedom can not grow
Where pressed upon by force? |
