Steam on the Mirror

Steam on the mirror
Shadows on the wall
Unmoving
Signs of Civilization
Renewed again
In the wake of an Autumn Rage
Light, and Sounds of Life
Across the distance
Resound and remind
Of a Power unseen
Unappreciated
Until it is wrenched from us again
And we are in the darkness
Alone

Author's note:
This poem was inspired by four days of
living by candlelight with cold showers
after the Cenrtal New York Area was hit
by a sudden windstorm that knocked down
half the power poles across the state's
central beltline
