Hand on Hand

The bombed out ruins,
the crumbling rubble,
the noble old buildings,
crushed to powder,
and dust.
And the walking dazed
remains of men,
the women and children wondering,
how it could all begin again,
after so many centuries,
of hand upon hand,
heart upon heart,
life upon life,
storey upon storey,
floor upon floor,
roof next roof;
how to begin anew,
and yet...
they do,
and yes,
they did,
and so do we,
again and again,
hand upon hand,
heart upon heart,
life upon life,
line upon line,
story upon story.
