Nile in the Sky

You come whispering violently
Hissing out your rage in venom
Like a huge grey serpent,
twisting and stemming the earth
You swoop down showing your many moods

The feud with the sun is so old you
honour it rarely
Shedding a blue, blue skin that
creases with cloud and colour

At night you rest and cast a white,
moody eye suspisciously
As if the sun were creeping up on you
The battle for the dominion of the sky
is often yours and you avenge silence like
a thousand lions roaring

The truce sprouts in soil, in millions
of seeds that reach for you
Oh mother of a million tears
Oh mother of the nile in the sky
