GLAD ARRIVAL

I am feeling smilier than ever ;

Chipmonks race back & forth in the driveway ,

Scattering like russet leaves

Dancing to glad music

As your car is approaching .

The swirl of sunsets
One day after another
Beyond locations
Everywhere 5 O"Clock
6 :30 --- purple people racing
With an orange sun
Across the night-near sky.

I be
ask in the hallelujah
Of another extended
Extension
Time like a balloon
Full of the images of our souls
One by one passing into the night.
Full as bright as you.
The darkness neigh as near and full

AS WE WERE, AS WE ARE

I.
In the softest place
Behind your ear
I see us as we once were
Myself as I might have been
If not trapped in hallways where I found
In the land of melancholy & elation
Delusions lurking
Until I was guided from the recesses
Into a gentler life
Finding retirement
After a lifetime of work,
Service, art, & suffering
In a world of peace and contentment.

II.
The alter gives me all
Where she stole "once"
She returns "now" to me.
And I am green as green apple jelly
In my old age freed of
The weight of worry !

III.
All's well now and so now
Seems awhile, I rest easy and
Smile a smile of relief

STARS CRASHING

The sight of stars crashing
And the sound of planets whirling
Befuddle me
So that all I can see
Disappears before I can grasp it.

RICH AND POOR

I am both rich and poor,
Both happy and sad.
I am me, I am you ;
I am the changes of my life.

I have all and nothing ;
I possess the world.
I stand by your side
Pauperized and alone.

I dance with joy
Yet stumble lame ;
Happily onward I sing
As I crouch in my misery.

I hold the child of my flesh.
I am childless ;
I cherish my issue
As my voice touches this land.

I give you the shells I have gathered on the beach.
My hands are empty :
My heart is full,
For life is mine.
