Desideratum

Skipping sideways
Is my body
Resulting from a self-instigated
Expulsion
From a speeding car.
I felt so inclined
To experience the thrill
Of sliding face-forward
On the icy gravel.
A swift grab of my head
By a criminal guardrail
Detaches my head from my neck
And I wonder if this is how
A bottle of champagne feels
When the cork is popped.
Free at last
Is my steamy soul
As it drifts slowly from my neck.
Higher and higher
My spirit is floating
Fueled by the joy and ecstasy of freedom
Until...
The realization of failure settles in
And my soul crashes
To the ground
In a crumpled,
Withered
Heap.
