ALPHABET LOVE SONG

Alphabet of English you astound me no end
Being signals or signs as equivalent for letters
Cornucopias of words, phrases and sentences spill like coins
Delivering gifts of language and delight more precious than gold
Elucidating, explicating, examining at will, ah, serendipity!
Fostering communication not always harmonious
Good sex, good health, that old grand dame
Heaven’s on earth, on this land we make home
Imagining and making revolution are tasks at hand
Justice demand the necessity of change
Kleptomania, yes, but of words, not jewelry
Love, honor and respect we anchor with deeds
Making dinner of sand dabs and rice steamed to perfection
Never burn the rice Ma and Bah Bah admonished
Over the stove I’ve learned to cook with aplomb
Popovers, jah don, hot, deep-fried “hand grenades”
Quiet storms stirred this cuisine of my ancestors
Respect for the self links to love for sisters and brothers
Savoring experience with a child’s wide eyes
Tall drinks of iced ginger tea soothe the throbbing heart
Underneath, within and outside this framework called life
Visiting earth, its lines, its cracks, its boundless seas
Welcome, o alphabet, o warriors, with these hands you thrive
X-men, X-Women comic characters invade without warning
Yielding insight perhaps to multifarious pop culture
Zigzagging the globe with glee and laughter
